The Ocean Stirs the Heart and Inspires the Imagination

One Possible Layout

It took a bit longer than we thought but it has finally arrived... the 3rd instalment of our sea and ocean themed CNC projects.  This project should finish up the series very nicely, for now! All 3 of these projects needed to be developed at the same time to ensure they work together in some pretty unique ways.  With the addition of the new models in this project you can now create an even more detailed and interesting layout.

All 3 of the projects have been inspired by what you might see in the shallow pools of water you find while walking on the beach.  Things like sea urchins, clamshells, smooth rocks, wavy textures and driftwood give you a glimpse of what you might encounter on the seafloor.  Using the wavy tile ends and wavy texture, included in this project, you can create some interesting wall art, cottage signs, coffee tables and even a headboard that will surely keep you dreaming of the surf. The wavy tile can be tiled, end to end, to make a longer layout. Tucking models under its raised edge or under the raised bits of the driftwood you can add lots of depth to your finished project!

Sometimes it's best we let the customer and his/her work get the first words in.

Tony used the assembled layout form the Under the Sea No.2 for this beautiful finished piece!

"I have very recently purchased several of your Design and Make projects to get me going on my home made Mechmate CNC. I have very limited experience and have hardly used my machine due to work travel requirements however that has now changed and I plan to spend more time using my cnc and Design and Make Projects."

Tony added some VCarving to the assembled layout form the Under the Sea No.1 to create this piece!

"My CNC has a cutting table size of 2440mm x 1240mm runs with a water cooled 2.2Kw Spindle."
"I use Vectric Aspire V8 and Mach 3."
"I used a 6mm End Mill to Rough out followed by a 2mm Tapered Ball nose to finish. The text was cut using a 60 degree V-Bit with both signs then being cut out using my table saw. The signs were then treated to several coats of Organoil to finish. Material used was Australian Blackwood."

Tony posted a great video on his businesses page showing the signs being machined!  Check it out!

Tony lives in Brisbane, Australia and we are so happy that he is enjoying working with our CNC projects!  Love that finish, it adds so much depth to the finish piece!

Thank you Tony for sharing these projects with us!

Smell the Sea and Feel the Sky!

This week we will release the 3rd installment of the Under the Sea themed CNC projects.   We are excited to see how those of you who have dove into the projects will hack them together and what they will use them for!

Don Harding had sent us in some pictures of what he has done with the first 2 Under the Sea Projects.

This first piece is something Don hacked together using the Under the Sea No.1 and No.2 projects.  His VCarved quote really adds to the layout!

"If I could Live in the Sea What would I Like to Be?"

His next hack he decided to use 3 different projects.

Models from Under the Sea No.1, No.2 and the broken tiles for the Rose Tile No.1 project!

Close up of the starfish.

Close up of the crab.

What a great looking finished layout!

Don is also experimenting with small 6" x 6" tiles.

"6x6x.75 Just playing around. Gonna practice my Coloring on this."

What a great idea!! These would also look great a small piece of wall art in a cabin by the sea!

Thanks again Don for sharing your work with us.  Keep up the hacking!
