Love is in the air!

With the arrival of summer you can bet there will be a lot of couples planning for their "special" day.  If you are part of the planning committee it just might be the right time to sort out any special decorations you might need.

Wedding Paque

Don Harding just finished this lovely wedding gift for  his Grandson. He used models for the Be Mine No.1 and No.2 projects to create this layout.

"10 x 19 x 1 cherry wood . 9 Hours"

What a final project that will surely be cherished for years to come.

Don's layout could have been easily used as a wedding sign to be hung over a guestbook or to welcome guest as they arrive.

If you are attending the wedding as a guest that day will arrive, you know the day, when you have to sort out what to get the couple for a gift.  Now if you have been married for a few years it's always a good idea to have an anniversary gift ready to go, just in case you are a bit foggy on the date.

James Patton sent in these next two lovely, almost finished, and finished projects.  This first one could easily be used for an anniversary gift, wedding plaque or gift.

"The hearts from Be Mine No.2. Haven’t quite figured out the finish I want on the second one, but the lettering was done in the 18kt gold plate..."

That gold leaf sure looks nice.  What a great touch!

Happily, Ever, After

"And I thought I loved you then... 21 years later more than ever!"

"Here’s a piece carved from the Be Mine No.2 project. Made it for our anniversary ( only been married a year, but been together for 21..lol) Stole the wording from your site. It was carved in red oak...then stained cabernet, some light coats of semi gloss and then hit the outer edges of the heart with some gold rub n buff. Lettering was stained with ebony..About 8" diameter..."

What a great gift and it turned out wonderfully!

Tim Babb, from The Woodworking Maniak, created this lovely box for Valentine's Day for his wife.

Valentine's Day box

It's a great project and seeing as he has a YouTube channel you can see exactly how he made it.

Tim used the Be Mine No.2 project to create his layout and finished box.

Keep in mind this easily could have been a ring box for a wedding or a wedding gift with just a quick change of the v-carving on the top.

Thank you Don, James and Tim for sharing these great projects!

Hack of the Week No.104

For those of you that are a fan of the Mother's Garden themed projects you surely will appreciate this one.  We only used 2 models to create this hack: the daisy in the background is the same as the other just flipped and scaled.  Change up the simulated v-carving to create a customized layout for a wedding, housewarming gift or to fit your needs.

This "Mother's Love" wall decoration or brooch was created using models from these projects:

The font we used to simulate the v-carving on this layout is called:  Palatino Linotype

Note - This hack was assembled in Aspire V8 for presentation purposes.  It could have been done in VCarve Pro V8 or VCarve Desktop.

Why not hack together your own layout mixing and matching models from other projects or from your own library!  For some great inspiration check out our  hacks page!

The Design and Make Team

Customer Focus - Johan Ahlberg

Johan Ahlberg sent in some images of ring boxes he made using some of the models from the the Be Mine No.1 project as a top embellishment.   He was kind enough to share his process, so keep reading!

Again we have been sent some finished projects that have impressed us, inspired us and have made us wonder what others are doing out there with our projects.

Roughing pass to remove most of the contrasting wood.

Finishing pass to clean up the top.

"I cutted out the lid first with the down side up with a dado for a snug fit to the bottom half and then glued a 4 mm piece of contrasting wood on the top side and made a 3d finish."

"I use a 6090 China router with an upgraded water cooled spindle (2.2kw). I use Vectric software and nc studio. Vectric is an excellent program that is fun and easy to use."

Finished box... WOW!

The end result of such a unique process is outstanding!  Gluing the 2 different pieces of wood together and then machining the top wood off leaving only the model is pretty neat.

"They were fun and easy to make."

"Maybe they can inspire someone else."

We are pretty sure they will inspire our users to try something  new and, we hope, inspire a few ladies to say "Yes!".

"I am a co-owner in a company called Herrljunga Ledstångsfabrik and we are leading in sweden when it comes to handrails and bannisters ."

"When we decided to purchase a CNC I couldn't resist to buying one for myself.  1 year after that I started a hobby company on the side.  My own website : 3dskyltar.se has only been active 2 months."

Looks like Johan is off to a great start with his business and the ring boxes are looking very nice on his website.

"I must say that your concept with whole projects is Great and I'm sure I will be a returning customer."

Thank you Johan for sharing this special project with us!
