John Vasquez you are "Weekend CNC Warrior" Approved!

We are pretty excited to see people using our mini-projects with all sorts of CNC machines from the industrial sized monsters, DIY machines and upgraded kit machines.  John was one of the first we heard of using the ShapeOko 2 CNC, Aspire and our mini-projects to create his weekend CNC projects.

John used the Mothers Garden No.1 mini-project to help make this wonderful finished piece.

"CNC Machine used was a Shapeoko 2 with a DW660 router with upgraded ACME Z Axis and Dual Y Axis Drive with a custom 3D Printed Dust shoe.

  1. Used Aspire to lay out the design and generate tool path's took approximately 1.5hours
  2. Ran the rough cust with a 1/4" end mill approximate time 2 hours
  3. Ran the Finish cut what a 1/16" ball nose approximate time 3.5 hours
  4. Ran the Vcarve lettering with 90deg Vbit approximate time 10 minutes
  5. Ran the Profile cut with a 1/4" end mill approximate time 20 minutes

Sign was cut into 3/4" pine and air brushed with Opaque auto paint for durability and coated with 5 coats of spray on Shellac."

John was nice enough to supply some work in progress snaps too help illustrate his work flow.

What a great finished piece and we are pretty sure it was very well received!

Thank you so much for sharing and, John, you can consider yourself "Weekend CNC Warrior" Approved!

Randy from WorkedWood.com you are "Weekend CNC Warrior" Approved!

It's great to see our users posting pictures of finished project that have made use of our projects.  Sometime we have a hard time finding them and if we do see them it is by sure luck.  Randy Meyer, from WorkedWood.com has the right idea when posting and is sure to tag us so we can find them easily.  Below are some examples of his work... and it's well worth the look!

Randy used our Pick-up League Baseball mini-project.

Randy posted this on Twitter and, as you can see, it was hard not to take a double take.

"Its hard maple finished with three coats spar urethane. I have a Shark Pro and Carvewright use the standard software, Meshlab, Sculptris, and Corel 15."

Notice how he cropped the baseball into a heart shape... now that's hacking!

Randy also worked on this beauty and tweeted us the image...

"@CNCminiProjects a small hack of my own for the @stormathletics baseball team. The team signed the infield."

He used the models form the Pick-Up League Baseball and the ribbon from the Family Coat of Arm Achievement Pack No.2 to create this hack!

Super idea Randy and thanks for the tweet!!!!

Randy tweeted his latest use of a mini-project and it's another great piece.

This birth plaque layout came straight from the project sheet we included with the Nursery Fun No.1 mini-project.

His attention to detail and his finishing is perfect!  Nice font!

Be sure to keep an eye on Randy by taking a looking at his website (www.workedwood.com) and follow him on Twitter (@WorkedWood).

Hack of the Week No.27

The great thing about our mini-projects is that you can mix and match the models or add in your own.

Our weekly mini-project hack uses models from 2 or more mini-projects.

This weeks hack was inspired by a piece Suzanne Ramsay (one of our Weekend CNC Warriors) made with our Home for the Holidays No.2 mini-project.

Suzanne hacked this one together using the Home for the Holidays No.2 mini-project and a model from her library.

Our candle holder layout was created using models from these mini-projects:

The font we used to simulate the v-carving on the sign is called:

  • Century

Pretty amazing what you can hack together with our mini-projects!   Thanks again Suzanne for the inspiration!
